Lock Out, Tag Out (LOTO) is a safety procedure used in industry and research settings to ensure that dangerous machines are properly shut off and not able to be started up again prior to the completion of maintenance or repair work. Clearly, in such procedures, safety is critical both in shutting down the machine and ensuring it remains off during maintenance. In above example, the objective was to cut the energy of a bridge crane for maintenance. The team included an electrician, a mechanic, the bridge crane operator, and the supervisor (whose point of view we see the video through). The process of shutting off the machinery itself is dangerous due to nature of working with electrical equipment and, equally as important, is making sure the machinery remains off for the workers who will later be performing work on the machinery. Performing the shut off requires great attention to detail so that no steps are missed and this is one of the best uses of biometrics. Built-in eye tracking means that we are able to evaluate where each worker's attention goes throughout the procedure, allowing us to pinpoint exactly when and where they miss a crucial detail or step and when their attention might be straying. Our simulation generates a detailed report based off the eye tracking that helps both employees and employers identify knowledge gaps that could be fatal and simulated training allows workers to close these gap between their learning and real life application.
